Prayers of the People for the Fourth Sunday in Lent

As we return to the waters of Baptism during this season of Lent, let us pray for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all who need our prayers, saying “Hear us, O God,” and responding, “Your mercy is great.”

[Short pause]

Reconciling God, you have come running to us with words of welcome.  Help us believe that you mean it.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

Reconciling God, in a world which is divided and fractured, you call us to work toward unity and healing.  Strengthen us to be peacemakers.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

Reconciling God, in a society which uses people and treasures things, you call us to live by different priorities.  Increase our desire to love the way you do.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

Reconciling God, we have all done our share of destroying trust, of betraying confidence, of breaking relationships.  Change our direction, that we may become the ambassadors of reconciliation you call us to be.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

Reconciling God, bring healing to those whose lives have been broken by illness, poverty, violence and disaster, especially those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Use us to extend your compassion to the hurting.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

Reconciling God, everything you do, everything you are, is about restoring relationships.  Make that so of us.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the deep yearnings of our hearts, to you, gracious and merciful God, in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
