Prayers of the People for Easter Sunday

As we celebrate God’s salvation, demonstrated in the resurrection of Jesus, let us pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “God of new life,” and responding, “Hear our prayer.”

[Short pause]

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah! You have the last word; you have the final say. Your love even conquers death. Help us celebrate. God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah! In your great love, you accept us as we are. You endure our foolishness, our willfulness, our intentional blindness. Guide us into more faithful living. God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah! You are beyond our scientific explanations; you are always more than we can grasp. Give us faith to embrace the mystery of our existence; give us grace to live with ambiguity. God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah! Your salvation brings hope, precisely because there is so much in life that denies you: war, hunger, injustice, broken relationships. Show us how to live your Easter promise in this Good Friday world. God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah! There is nothing in life which is beyond your healing, resurrecting love. We offer our prayers for those who need them – the sick, the isolated, the hopeless, the angry, the cynical, and all we name before you.
[Long pause]
Use us to shine your light into the dark places around us. God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah! You surround us with impossible possibilities. Show us the amazing new things you are doing. Break through our carefully cultivated realism. Free us from ourselves, that we may truly be Easter people. God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting your life-giving promise, we offer these prayers in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.
