Prayers of the People for the Fourth Sunday of Easter

As we celebrate God’s salvation, shown in the resurrection of Jesus, we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “God of new life,” and responding, “Hear our prayer.”

[Short pause]

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You are our shepherd.  You care for us, and feed us, and lead us into ministry.  We thank you for the opportunities you provide.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You are our constant companion.  Take away our fear of change, our dread of those who are different, our apprehension of losing control.  Set us free to embrace life as it is.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You are doing new things around us, building human community in the normal interactions of life.  Open our eyes to see you working through ordinary quilters like Dorcas, that we may demonstrate your love in our normal interactions.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You are bringing your reign to our world.  Inspire hope in the face of hunger, terror, war and death.  Fill us with the Spirit of outrage, that we would become active participants in the expectation-shattering, life-bringing work you are doing.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You promise that, even in the valley of the shadow, you are there.  We pray your presence on those who need our prayers, especially those we name before you now.
[Long pause]
Remind those who are abandoned, wounded and sick that you walk with them, and Lord, remind them through us.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You come when we are empty.  You call when we are exhausted.  You move when we are stuck.  You are not the kind of Saviour we expect.  Help us, not just to believe, but to follow where you lead, wherever that may be.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting your life-giving promise, we offer these prayers in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the Third Sunday of Easter

As we celebrate God’s salvation, shown in the resurrection of Jesus, we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “God of new life,” and responding, “Hear our prayer.”

[Short pause]

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You bring us Good News of forgiveness and new possibilities.  We thank you.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Jesus forgave both Peter and Saul extravagantly.  You forgive us just as extravagantly.  Enable us to comprehend this amazing gift.  Strengthen our faith to share this amazing gift.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Your presence with this congregation inspires our gratitude.  Don’t stop there.  Don’t let us stop there.  Inspire among us a desire to grow in service of the poor, the hungry and the needy in this community.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Your presence with your world brings an awareness of our brokenness.  Enable us to be honest with ourselves.  Show us again our responsibility to live as your people, to care for others, to work for justice.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You walk with those who stumble, you cry with those who weep, you suffer with those who are ill.  Use us to remind the hurting, especially those we bring before you, that nothing separates us from your healing love.
[Long pause]
God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Fire us up.  Motivate us.  Move us out of our comfort zones, that we may discover the scary, exciting, threatening and life-giving truth of resurrection.  You are God of the new.  Make us new.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting your life-giving promise, we offer these prayers in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the Second Sunday of Easter

As we celebrate God’s salvation, demonstrated in the resurrection of Jesus, we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “God of new life,” and responding, “Hear our prayer.”

[Short pause]

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You come to your world in spite of worries, fears and doubts.  You come through locked doors, and into closed hearts, bringing light to all of our darkness.  We praise you.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You endure your church’s questions and reservations.  Give us patience to support each other as we struggle to understand, and give us the desire to follow wherever you lead.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You are constantly doing new things among us, around us, and in us.  Open us to the new, the different, the strange.  Increase our willingness to be partners in everything you are doing.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  We pray for life in the midst of death, for faith in the midst of doubt, for health in the midst of sickness, for hope in the midst of despair.  Rest your healing presence on all those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Help us be vehicles of healing and reconciliation.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You have overcome every obstacle in bringing new life to light.  Give us perseverance in the face of apathy, creativity in the face of difficulty, and trust in the face of opposition.  Help us be your resurrection people.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting your life-giving promise, we offer these prayers in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.
