Prayers of the People for the Third Sunday of Easter

As we celebrate God’s salvation, shown in the resurrection of Jesus, we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “God of new life,” and responding, “Hear our prayer.”

[Short pause]

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You bring us Good News of forgiveness and new possibilities.  We thank you.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Jesus forgave both Peter and Saul extravagantly.  You forgive us just as extravagantly.  Enable us to comprehend this amazing gift.  Strengthen our faith to share this amazing gift.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Your presence with this congregation inspires our gratitude.  Don’t stop there.  Don’t let us stop there.  Inspire among us a desire to grow in service of the poor, the hungry and the needy in this community.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Your presence with your world brings an awareness of our brokenness.  Enable us to be honest with ourselves.  Show us again our responsibility to live as your people, to care for others, to work for justice.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  You walk with those who stumble, you cry with those who weep, you suffer with those who are ill.  Use us to remind the hurting, especially those we bring before you, that nothing separates us from your healing love.
[Long pause]
God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

God of Resurrection, Hallelujah!  Fire us up.  Motivate us.  Move us out of our comfort zones, that we may discover the scary, exciting, threatening and life-giving truth of resurrection.  You are God of the new.  Make us new.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting your life-giving promise, we offer these prayers in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.
