Prayers of the People for the Reign of Christ

We pray with all the people of God throughout the ages, saying, “We pray in hope,” and responding, “Make all things new.”

[Pause]

God of the crucified, Jesus prayed for those who were killing him.  Therefore we pray for all those who consider people expendable, who consider the earth a commodity, who consider creation their due.  Help us forgive, and assist us to remember their humanity.  We pray in hope,
Make all things new.

God of the weak, Jesus gave up power for the sake of love.  Therefore we pray for those who have voting rights taken away, whose stories are not heard, who insights are ignored.  Help us speak up, and assist us to affirm their humanity.  We pray in hope,
Make all things new.

God of the lost, Jesus welcomed the criminal who was killed with him.  Therefore we pray for those who are incarcerated, who are excluded, who are considered not good enough.  Help us reach out, and assist us to open ourselves to others.  We pray in hope,
Make all things new.

God of the sick, Jesus identified with the ill and outcast.  Therefore we pray for all who have lost health, who have lost direction, who have lost hope.  Help us let go of fear, and extend a healing touch to all in need, especially those we name before you now.
[Long pause]
We pray in hope,
Make all things new.

God of the church, Jesus called his followers to a life of service.  Therefore we pray for this congregation, for all churches, for all traditions.  Help us embrace our calling, and become the loving people you want us to be.  We pray in hope,
Make all things new.

We offer these spoken prayers, our silent prayers, and the prayers for which we have no words, to you, loving God, in the name of our brother Jesus.
Amen.
