Prayers of the People for Advent 1, 2013

Walking in the hope of the coming Saviour, we pray for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and for all who wait for God’s justice, saying, Christ Jesus our Lord, and responding, Stir up your power and come.

[Brief pause]

God who is coming, prepare us for the gift of yourself which you have promised.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, open our eyes to see you, our ears to hear you, our hearts to welcome you.  But even more, open our mouths to proclaim you and our hands to share you.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, we thank you for the love which you show for all of creation.  Inspire us by your generosity.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, guide your church into faithful anticipation, that we may live today what you will be bringing tomorrow: forgiveness, reconciliation and peace.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, you are not far from any of us.  Use us to share your healing presence with all who are sick, addicted, poor, unemployed or isolated, especially those we name before you now.
[Long pause]
Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, prepare us for the gift of yourself which you have promised.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

We ask all these things of you, loving God, who provides more than we can comprehend, and promises more than we can imagine, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
