Prayers of the People for Advent 2, 2013

Walking in the hope of the coming Saviour, we pray for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and for all who wait for God’s justice, saying, Christ Jesus our Lord, and responding, Stir up your power and come.

[Brief pause]

God who is coming, you have promised to bring life from our death, hope from our fear, shoots from our stumps.  Give us vision to see what you are doing around us.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, we are surrounded by flashing lights, tinsel, commercials and noise.  Help us enter the quiet parts of life, and open our ears to what you are saying.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, we find it easy to accept the status quo, and to look for simple answers.  We find it harder to trust your promise, especially when you challenge our assumptions.  Give us the courage to swim upstream.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, reveal yourself in the middle of our illness, our loneliness, our anxiety.  Then use us to touch those in need of any healing, especially those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, guide this congregation through the challenges we are facing.  Help us to be honestly hopeful, and committed to loving.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

God who is coming, be with us as we walk through this time of expectant waiting and eager watching.  Give us the patience to pause, and the faith to act.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

We ask all these things of you, loving God, who provides more than we can comprehend, and promises more than we can imagine, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
