Prayers of the People for the Third Sunday of Advent 2013

Walking in the hope of the coming Saviour, we pray for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and for all who wait for God’s justice, saying, Christ Jesus our Lord, and responding, Stir up your power and come.

[Short pause]

Welcoming God, your arms are open to all.  Assist us to extend that same welcome to the people around us.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

Liberating God, you call all people to an authentic humanity.  Assist us to see the barriers we construct, and help us remove them.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

Reconciling God, you make enemies into friends.  Assist us to look beyond our fear, and see the potential for life-giving relationships.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

Waiting God, you are amazingly patient with us.  Assist us to be patient with each other, and with ourselves.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

Healing God, you come in the middle of our brokenness.  Assist us to touch the sick, isolated, depressed and lonely people of our community.  We especially pray for those who we name before you.
[Long pause]
Remind us that our illness does not define us.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

Sending God, you call us out of this place.  Assist us to be your people wherever we go, trusting the promise that you are with us wherever we go.  Christ Jesus our Lord,
Stir up your power and come.

We ask all these things of you, loving God, who provides more than we can comprehend, and promises more than we can imagine, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
