Prayers of the People for the Baptism of our Lord 2014

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

God of the Big Picture, broaden our view.  Give us increased vision to see what you are doing.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of details, focus our vision.  Show us your presence in the small, the insignificant, the forgettable.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the Big Picture, the universe is vast.  Enable us not only to celebrate your creation, but to remember how interconnected all of life is.  Send us as caretakers into your vast creation.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of details, our lives at times seem unimportant, our capabilities are so limited.  Help us to let go of doing “great things”; help us embrace doing little things with great love.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the Big Picture, your concern is for all people, all relationships, all politics, all illness, all oppression, all injustice.  Inspire us with a vision of peace, and make us part of the answer.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of details, your concern is lived out in specific people, concrete relationships, particular politics, actual illness, genuine oppression, real injustice.  Use us to bring your healing love to those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God who is God, nothing is too big or too small for you.  Give us faith to trust your presence in all we do, in all we see, in all we are.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.
