Prayers of the People for the Second Sunday After the Epiphany 2014

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

Loving God, your vision is always bigger.  Open our eyes to see more of what you are doing around us.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, your welcome is always wider.  Continue to work on us, that we may learn to receive all whom you send into our lives.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, your mission is always grander.  Move us beyond our past, to embrace the future you are bringing.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, your love is always more inclusive.  Inspire us to reach out beyond our comfort zones, that we may discover you with the widow and orphan, the homeless and addict, the foreigner and refugee.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, your presence is always closer.  Give us the courage to go where others won’t go: to the sick and the shut-in, to the contagious and the outcast, to the misunderstood and the ignored.  We especially bring our prayers for those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Use us to touch pain-filled lives with your healing.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you are always calling us up, calling us out, calling us beyond.  Increase our faith, that we may respond eagerly, and serve willingly.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.
