Prayers of the People for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany 2014

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us

[Short pause]

God who calls us, you walk with all people, reach out to all people, support all people.  We thank you for your care.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God who calls us, you have brought us into your church, with all of our gifts, with all of our challenges.  Enable us to welcome as we have been welcomed.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God who calls us, you surround us with people who can make us uncomfortable, with situations which can point out our weaknesses.  Strengthen our faith to let go of proving ourselves; help us trust your presence.  Light of the world
Shine on us and through us.

God who calls us, you send us to the lonely, the shut-in, the unemployed, the sick and the dying.  Use us to extend your healing touch to those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God who calls us, give this congregation a vision of what we might be in this community.  Show us how we can serve most faithfully in this time and place.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.
