Prayers of the People for the Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany.

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

God of the margins, you speak most clearly through those who are told they have no voice.  Open our ears to hear what you are saying through the outsider, the powerless, the weak.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the margins, you come most profoundly to those who are considered expendable.  Help us proclaim and celebrate the value of the unemployed, the homeless, the hungry.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the margins, you cry out most intensely from the hard places in life.  Use us to shout out your compassion in back alleys, crack houses, broken families and decaying neighbourhoods.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the margins, you love your whole creation, but you express your deepest concern for those who live on the underside of life.  Show us the suffering that is too easily hidden, invisible, ignored.  Remind us of our call to serve.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the margins, our illness, our disease, our loneliness does not keep you at bay.  Send us to those who need any kind of healing, especially those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of the margins, you challenge our assumptions, and rearrange our priorities.  Enable us to trust what you are doing to us, that we may take part with joyful abandon as you remake the world.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.
