Prayers of the People for the Transfiguration of Our Lord 2014

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

God of light, you shine in all of life.  Open our eyes to see.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in the darkest places.  Lead us to share your love and light in all the valleys we encounter.  Help us to embrace the people of Syria, Ukraine, the Central African Republic, and the poor of our own community.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in our confusion.  As you inspire our vision, keep us from self-condemnation; free us to respond with eagerness to the ministry opportunities which surround us.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in this congregation.  Open our lives to reflect your brilliant love, and show us the next step in our journey as your people.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in our need.  Use us to touch those who need healing, support, food, work, meaning and hope, especially those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in all of life.  Open our eyes to see.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the Seventh Sunday after the Epiphany, 2014

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

God of reconciliation, you call us to honesty.  Help us to admit that we have enemies, and set us free to begin a new relationship.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of reconciliation, you call us to wholeness.  Guide our steps as we walk with each other. Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of reconciliation, you call us to restoration.  Strengthen us to reach out to those with whom we disagree.  Help us to be faithful, both to you and to each other.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of reconciliation, you call us to forgiveness.  Make us aware of our own need for your love, show us how much love we have already been given, and then help us share it.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of reconciliation, you call us to healing.  Remove our fear, so that we might touch the ill, the lonely and the dying with your presence.  We pray especially for those we remember before you now.
[Long pause]
Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of reconciliation, you call us to be your reconcilers.  Fill us with eagerness and love for the people of Syria, the Congo, the Ukraine, and our own back yards.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

Loving God, you have chosen us to be your church in this time and place.  As we face the challenges and quandaries of our day, help us choose life.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you have chosen us to reflect your love and your light.  As we walk in your presence through our dilemmas, help us choose life.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you have chosen us to speak your liberating word.  As we are confronted with the risks of following you, help us choose life.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you have chosen us to live as a community of faith.  As we discern our next steps together, help us choose life.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you have chosen us to serve the wider community.  As we admit our hesitation and fear, help us choose life.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you have chosen us to announce health in the face of illness, expectation in the face of resignation, dreams in the face of cynicism.  Therefore we pray for those who need our prayers.
[Long pause]
As we challenge the despair around us and within us, help us choose life.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.
