Prayers for All Saints Sunday, November 2, 2014

The Holy Spirit has made us God’s people through our baptism into Christ. Therefore we offer our concerns for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

God of love, we give you thanks for the people who have touched us with your love. Use us to do the same for the people around us. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God of love, we give thanks for your Good News, which breaks barriers, restores relationships, and offers hope in the dark places of life. Inspire us to do the same for the people around us. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God of love, we give thanks for all people of good will, who surprise us with their compassion and care. Open our eyes to see you working through the people around us. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God of love, we give thanks for your promise to be with us always. Enable us to trust you so much that we share your promise with the people around us. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God of love, we give thanks for those who have loved us, those whom we have loved, those who have died in you. Today we especially remember
[NAMES].
Comfort us in our sorrow, so that we may offer comfort to the hurting people around us. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God of love, we give thanks that you walk with us through all of our valleys. Fill us with the assurance of your presence, that we may be your healing hands for the sick and hurting people around us, especially those whom we name before you now.
[Long pause]
With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the silent yearnings of our hearts, to you loving God, in the name of Jesus the Christ.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for Pentecost 19, October 19, 2014

We are God’s baptized people, partners in the ministry of Christ. Therefore we now pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

God of word, you speak to us of who you are, revealing yourself as a God of love and compassion. We need your help to hear what you are saying to us. Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

God of water, you wash us and welcome us in the waters of baptism. We need the faith and courage to respond every day. Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

God of bread, you provide this world with more than enough. We need your wisdom to stop hoarding; we need your motivation to start sharing. Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

God of wine, you have created us to enjoy life, to celebrate your goodness, to pass on what you have given. We need your reassurance that you walk with us. Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

God of community, we are surrounded by your people, your family, your nations, your church. We need increased awareness of your presence in all those with whom we share this world. Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

God of compassion, you promise not to abandon us, no matter what confronts us in life. In the face of limitations, people need constant reminders of your promise. Use us, therefore, to touch with your love those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

God of life, death and new life, your care and faithfulness extends beyond anything we can imagine. We need faith to trust your promise, hope to embrace the present, and love to hold on. Therefore we pray,
Loving God, hear our prayer.

We pray all this, as well as those things which we don’t even know, to you, loving God, in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
