Prayers of the People for the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, November 9, 2014

God has promised to hear us when we pray. Therefore we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

God who listens, we give thanks that you hear us when we call to you. Increase our trust in your promises. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God who commits, you are faithful to what you have promised. Open our eyes to see that you are doing what you have said you will do. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God who comes, you continue to approach us with love and acceptance, yet you also approach us with a challenge and a Call. Give us the faith to welcome you, whatever the cost. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God who cries for justice, we ask your comfort for those who are victims of war and violence. We ask your blessings on those who serve their countries. We ask your wisdom for those who lead governments. Remind us of our call to be peacemakers. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God who heals, you are present in the dark corners of life: prisons, hospitals, half-way houses, funeral homes. Enable those who need reminders of your presence that you are walking with them. We especially pray for [NAMES, as well as] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Send us into the dark, that we may shine your light. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

God who loves, you call us to be your people, you invite us to reach out to others, you inspire us to go beyond the boundaries we have created. Remove our fear; inspire our confidence; help us to speak out. With all God’s people, we pray,
Hear us, loving God.

We offer these prayers, as well as the silent yearnings of our hearts, to you, loving God, in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
