Prayers of the People for the Second Sunday in Lent, 2015

God has joined us in our journey of life. Trusting that presence, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people in any need.

[Short pause]

God of covenant, you call us to the vastness of your love, the vastness of your reign. Increase our desire to respond. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God of covenant, free us from our fear of how large the world is. Help us understand that you do not call us to be in charge. Help us trust that you call us simply to step out. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God of covenant, you go with us wherever we go, you are with us wherever we are, you work in us whatever we do. Make us joyful in the service to which you call us. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God of covenant, you stretch us beyond what we were, you call us beyond where we are. In the midst of our hesitation, in the midst of our not knowing, give us faith. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God of covenant, enable us to begin with the small steps of caring for the people around us. Accept our prayers, and inspire our service for those for whom we pray, including [NAMES, AND] all those whom we name before you. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God of covenant, we do not ask for instructions; we do not ask for equipment; we do not ask for more than you have already given us. We only ask for reminders that you will not leave us alone, and for the yearning to go where you lead. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

We pray all this in the name of our Saviour, our companion and our guide, Jesus the Christ.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the First Sunday in Lent, 2015

God has joined us in our journey of life. Trusting that presence, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people in any need.

[Short pause]

God who comes in covenant, your promise overwhelms us, making us unable to speak. Accept our inadequate thanks. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God who comes in water, your promise washes over us, making us new, making us yours. Help us to trust your love. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God who comes in spoken word, your promise wakes us up, shakes us up, and takes us into unfamiliar territory. Help us follow your leading. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God who drives us into the wilderness, your promise does not always comfort us, but it always accompanies us. Strengthen us in the challenges we face. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God who embraces us in the wilderness, remind us that you walk through our valleys with us. We pray especially for those who need concrete reminders of your care, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

God of covenant, God of promise, you have called us to be your people. As we offer our thanks and praise, may we also offer our lives. [Pause] God of silence,
Come to us. Come through us.

We pray all this in the name of our Saviour, our companion and our guide, Jesus the Christ.
Amen.

Prayers for the Fifth Sunday After the Epiphany, 2015

Having been called into the light of Christ, and trusting the Spirit’s guidance in our journey, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people in any need.

[Short pause]

Loving God, you set us free from what holds us back, and you call us toward what will set us free. Open our eyes to your presence on our journey. God of light,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you set us free so that we can care. Strengthen us to take the next step on our journey. God of light,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you free those who are oppressed, and call all who are oppressors to grow into a new way of being. Help us embrace justice as part of our journey. God of light,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, the healing you provide is more than freedom from pain; it declares your desire that all may participate in life. Enable us to share what you have given us with those with whom we journey. God of light,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, we pray for those who are on our minds and hearts – those close to us and those far away; those whom we love and those from whom we are estranged; those who share our perspective and those from whom we differ; those whom we name aloud, [INCLUDING NAMES], and those whom we name in our hearts.
[Long pause]
God of light,
Shine on us and through us.

Loving God, you call us to service, freedom and proclamation. Fire us to respond on every step of our journey. God of light,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray all this in the name of our light and our life, Jesus the Christ.
Amen.
