Prayers of the People for Maundy Thursday, 2015

Let us pray, in the name of our servant Saviour, Jesus the Christ, for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all who need a sign of love.

[Short pause]

God of the small, take our eyes away from the distractions of glitter and glamour, from the big and powerful. Show us where you come in our lives. Christ who serves us,
Make us more faithful servants.

God of the weak, Jesus put on a towel and became the lowest kind of servant. Help us follow where he leads. Christ who serves us,
Make us more faithful servants.

God of the voiceless, there are many in life whose cries are ignored – the poor, the homeless, the foreigners, the different, all victims of our pride, prejudice and fear. Help us pay attention. Christ who serves us,
Make us more faithful servants.

God of the powerless, you gave up what you had, in order to welcome us. Inspire us to do the same for those around us. Christ who serves us,
Make us more faithful servants.

God of the ill, you continue to come to those who are dying, who are incapable of healing themselves, who have lost hope. Show us how to share their space, not to provide easy answers, but to be companions on the journey. Christ who serves us,
Make us more faithful servants.

God of the church, God of this parish, strengthen our faith to embrace the small, admit our weakness, listen to the silent, join the powerless, hold the sick, and proclaim your presence through everything we do, through everything we are. Christ who serves us,
Make us more faithful servants.

We pray all this in the name of our servant Saviour, Jesus the Christ.
Amen.
