Prayers of the People for Pentecost 3, Ordinary 10, June 14, 2015

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, let us offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

God who breaks the rules, you do not make decisions based on expectations, on history, or even on abilities. Remind us that people are always more important than tradition. God of our baptism,
May our life be our prayer.

God who breaks the rules, we can become too comfortable with “the way we’ve always done it before.” Break us out of our patterns; help us embrace the new.  God of our baptism,
May our life be our prayer.

God who breaks the rules, we want to be safe, to stay safe, to keep ourselves safe. Help us let go of the fear which holds us back; open us to the leading of your Spirit. God of our baptism,
May our life be our prayer.

God who breaks the rules, you speak through children, serve through the helpless, inspire through the hopeless, call to people through pain. Unplug our ears to hear your voice crying out from the unexpected. God of our baptism,
May our life be our prayer.

God who breaks the rules, you come most profoundly in those situations which seem to deny your existence, to those people who seem beyond help. Use us to touch those whose lives are empty, whose health has vanished, whose purpose has evaporated, including [NAMES, AND] all those who we name before you. [LONG PAUSE] God of our baptism,
May our life be our prayer.

God who breaks the rules, you set us free for ministry. May we take the risk of trusting you with everything. God of our baptism,
May our life be our prayer.

Trusting in the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
