Prayers of the People for Advent 2, 2015

Trusting the promise of God’s coming, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs

[Short pause]

God who comes in voices from the wilderness, open our ears to hear.  Free us from our attachment to power, so we may become more compassionate.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who comes in cries from the distressed and angry, open our ears to hear.  Strengthen our faith to go into the pain-filled corners of life, so that the hurting will know they are not alone.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who comes in the silent tears of those who mourn, open our ears to hear.  Make us more aware of the experiences of others, so we may respond to their needs appropriately.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who comes in the wails of hungry and neglected children, open our ears to hear.  Show us how much we have to offer, and set us free to be peacemakers and care takers for the sake of all your children.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who comes in the silent suffering of the sick, open our ears to hear.  Use us to bring your healing touch to [NAMES, AND] all those who need your care.
[Long pause]
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who comes, open our ears to hear.  May we go where you call us to go, serve whom you call us to serve, and love as you love us.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

We pray all these things, and all those things for which we have no words, in the name of Jesus, our Saviour and Lord.
Amen.
