Prayers of the People for Advent 4

Trusting the promise of God’s coming, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs

[Short pause]

Loving God, your priorities are not ours.  You do not conform to our expectations.  You do not do what we expect.  Open us to your leading.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of change, your coming throws us off our stride.  You call into question all of our decisions; you confound our thinking.  May we be open to new directions, and new possibilities.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who leads, you take us into uncomfortable territory; you point us to distressing realities; you invite us to walk with those who challenge our ideals.  Give us the humility to learn and to embrace.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who inspires, we give you thanks for those who respond to your call to serve their neighbour.  Especially today, we thank you for the witness of Ryan Barry, Richard Biggar, Trevor Bruhm, Richard Clark, Alex Godbold and Bernadette Jordan.  As we thank them for their service, may we also join them in serving the greater good.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God who comes, you are still to be found among the weak, the marginalized, the poor, the addicted and the sick.  We pray for open eyes to see you in the presence of those who need our prayers, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.  [Long pause]  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Loving God, change our priorities, challenge our assumptions, make us uncomfortable.  And then, loving God. enable us to follow where you go.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

We pray all these things, and all those things for which we have no words, in the name of Jesus, our Saviour and Lord.
Amen.
