Prayers of the People for Pentecost 9, July 17, 2016

Embracing the ministries to which we are called, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

God of Mary and Martha, you welcome all, and invite us to do the same.  Free us from laying expectations on how others should respond.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of Mary and Martha, there are many ways of serving.  Free us from trying to control others.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of Mary and Martha, you give a universe of gifts to all people.  Enable us to be open to the gifts of others, even if they are not what we expect.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of Mary and Martha, you call us to engage with the people around us.  Set us free from our fear of difference.  Set us free to learn something new.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of Mary and Martha, as part of our service, you ask us to extend healing hands to all who are ill, who are cut off, who are excluded.  We offer our prayers for all who are in need, including [NAMES, AND] all those we name before you.
[Long pause]
God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of Mary and Martha, you liberate us by your grace, setting us free to serve.  Open us to the possibilities which surround us.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the unspoken longings of our hearts, to you, loving God, in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray, Our Father in Heaven….

Prayers of the People for Pentecost 8, July 10, 2016

Embracing the ministries to which we are called, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

Loving God, we live in a world at war with itself, at war with you.  When we are too willing to hate, forgive.  When we lack the resolve to love, strengthen our determination.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Loving God, open us to those who are different.  Expand our vision, so we may see your image in those who are not like us.  Help us grow with them into the people you call us to be.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Loving God, you speak to us through Samaritans, through outsiders, through Muslims, through gays and lesbians, through natives, through protestors, through people who disturb us, through people who challenge us.  Help us listen in spite of our discomfort.  Help us hear your voice, no matter how inconvenient .  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Loving God, you call us to be your healing presence, in our world and in our community.  Use us to touch those who need a reminder of your presence, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Loving God, strengthen us to stand up, to be neighbour to those in need, to oppose everything which dehumanizes and diminishes.  Motivate us to care.  Inspire us to trust.  Move us to act.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the unspoken longings of our hearts, to you, loving God, in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray, Our Father in Heaven….
