Prayers of the People for the Reign of Christ, 2016

Embracing the ministries to which we are called, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

God of love, you ARE love.  We give thanks for your gift of love to us.  May we share your gift with those who need it most.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of forgiveness, in Jesus you reconcile us to yourself, as well as to each other.  May we live this gift in our lives together.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of peace, you come to a world filled with crosses, filled with hate, filled with violence.  Help us to accept the cost of being peacemakers in this fear-filled world.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of creation, you have made us caretakers of this world.  Free us from hoarding your gifts for ourselves.  Remind us of the needs of future generations.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of the suffering, we admit that we have a hard time trusting your presence in the pain-filled parts of life.  Open our eyes to see your Christ with the suffering ones around us.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of the sick, you are present when we have lost all ability to care for ourselves.  Bring your wholeness to those who are ill.  We remember especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Use us to bring your healing wherever it is needed.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

God of the church, strengthen the faith your people.  Free us from our fear of the different.  Increase our joy in your presence.  Open us to what you are doing today.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the unspoken longings of our hearts, to you, liberating God, in the name of Jesus, our liberating Saviour.
Amen.
