Prayers of the People for Lent 4, March 26, 2017

Together we come to God, aware of our brokenness, aware of our call, aware of the world’s need, and asking that we be strengthened for ministry.

[Short pause]

God of those who cannot see, you come to us, into our space, into our darkness, with words of encouragement and hope.  Help us hear you.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of those who do not see, you come into our situation with words of persuasion, words of direction, words of call.  Help us respond to you.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of those who refuse to see, you challenge our stubbornness with words of confrontation, words of demand, words of warning.  Help us take you to heart.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of those who claim to see, you do not offer comfort when we deceive ourselves.  You point us to uncomfortable reality.  You bring painful truth.  Help us be open to whatever you see that we need.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of those who crave to see, you offer words of promise to all who realize their blindness.  Help us be open to the healing you bring.  Help us be vehicles for the restoration you offer, especially for [NAMES, AND] all those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of those who do not see, our world is blind, and we are a part of this world.  Help us hear your word.  Help us trust your promise.  Help us share your love.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the unspoken longings of our hearts, to you, liberating God, in the name of Jesus, your liberating Saviour.
Amen.
