Prayers of the People for April 23, 2017, Easter 2

Celebrating the gift of new life in Christ, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all who need a reminder of God’s love.

[Short pause]

Living God, you are open to us, vulnerable to us, able to be hurt by us.  We thank you for your willingness to engage with us.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Living God, you are willing to risk everything for us.  Increase our gratitude, and our own willingness to risk.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Living God, we are afraid of being vulnerable.  We crave certainty and strength, power and control.  Open us to the possibility of freedom which comes with weakness.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Living God, you do not approach us in isolation; you come to us in community.  Keep us available to each other, even when we see things differently, so that we may encounter you.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Living God, the people around us are vulnerable.  This planet is vulnerable.  Life itself is vulnerable.  Show us your presence in all of our existence, that our trust of your promises may be strengthened.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Living God, we pray for those who are most aware of their weakness: the under-employed, the lonely, the oppressed, the sick, especially [NAMES, AND] all those whom we name before you.
[Long pause]
God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Living God, you are open to us.  Keep us open to you.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
