Prayers of the People for December 9, 2018 (Advent 2)

In Advent, we begin again.  So we ask God’s guidance and presence in our new journey.

[Short pause]

God of the wilderness, you call out to us from the abandoned places of life, the threatening places, the dangerous places.  Help us hear your unexpected voice.  With the whole church, we pray,
Come among us, loving God.

God of the wilderness, you call us into the abandoned places in life, where people are lonely and hurting and dying.  Give us the courage to face unpleasant truths about our world; give us the faith to respond with love.  With the whole church, we pray,
Come among us, loving God.

God of the wilderness, your church is experiencing wilderness times.  We are not where we thought we were; we are not going where we expected to go.  Use this time to teach us again who we are.  May we use this time to learn new ways of being.  With the whole church, we pray,
Come among us, loving God.

God of the wilderness, we pray for those who are living in the desert: the sick, the lonely, the abandoned, the persecuted, the abused, the refugee, the forgotten, the ignored.  Today we pray especially for [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
With the whole church, we pray,
Come among us, loving God.

God of the wilderness, in the waters of baptism, you send us back to the wilderness of civilization, back to the noise and conflict and bustle and frantic uncertainty of human life.  Remind us that we are not defined by the noise and conflict and bustle and frantic uncertainty.  Remind us that we are yours.  With the whole church, we pray,
Come among us, loving God.

These, and all other things which you see that we need, we ask in the name of Jesus, our coming Saviour
Amen.
