Prayers for August 18, 2019

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, let us offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

Transforming God, you love us as we are, yet you do not leave as as we are.  Open us to change and growth.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Transforming God, we fear change because we fear loss.  Rekindle our faith in your presence.  Remind us of your renewing promise.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Transforming God, forgive us for reducing your love to a transaction, your forgiveness to a contractual arrangement.  Embrace us with the vastness of your love.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Transforming God, our limitations do not limit you.  Inspire your church to take risks, to take what comes, and to trust your promise.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Transforming God, all of our lives need to be transformed.  Use us to reach past the familiar, and to touch those who need healing, reconciliation, and hope.  We especially remember [NAMES, AND] those whom we name before you.
[Long pause]
In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Transforming God, you love us as we are, yet you do not leave as as we are.  You have freed us to move.  Help us join your dance.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting in the promise of unbounded love, we pray as Jesus continues to teach us.
Our Father in heaven, ….

God of the greedy, we admit our insatiable desire for more.  Remind us again of how much you have already given us.  Call us again to gratitude.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of the generous, we offer our thanks for those who live a grateful life, who serve joyfully, who recognize what they have, who give out of your abundance.  Strengthen our faith to live the same way.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of the church, you bring your people together to support each other in our efforts to live faithful lives.  May we be generous with each other, that we may grow in blessing the community and world around us.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of the needy, free us from our fearful self-centredness, and open us to our neighbours throughout the world.  May we reach out before we are asked; may we help before others are desperate; may we become as generous as you are.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

God of the suffering, motivate us to touch those who are hurting with your abundant love, especially [NAMES, AND] those whom we name before you.
[Long silence]
Remind us that you have given us all we need to respond to the pain around us.  In your unbounded mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Hear our prayer.

Trusting in the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus name.
