Prayers of the People for July 23, 2017, Pentecost 7

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, we offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

God of promise, your presence with us changes everything.  Open our eyes to the possibilities which surround us.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of promise, your presence with us changes nothing outside us.  Give us the courage to be changed.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of promise, your presence with us reveals opportunities which seem impossible, and provides occasions for moving into unfamiliar territory.  Give us the faith to trust the journey.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of promise, your presence with us calls many of our expectations into question.  Give us hope that, in spite of our stubbornness and fear, we can continue becoming your welcoming community.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of promise, your presence with us gives meaning and purpose to all of our days.  Give us faith to trust your presence in the middle of our difficulties, our challenges, our heartbreaks.  We pray especially for [NAMES, AND] those we name before you now.
[Long pause]
Use us to remind others that they, too, are being held by your promise.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of promise, your presence changes everything; not be altering circumstances, but by providing a reason to hope.  Help us cling to that promise, for the sake of everyone else.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

Trusting the promise of unbounded love, we pray in the name of of Jesus, who taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven,….

Prayers of the People for Easter Sunday, 2015

Celebrating the mystery of new life in Christ, we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people in any need.

[Short pause]

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Everything that denies life has been defeated. The grave is empty; insults no longer define us; brokenness is not the final word in our lives. Accept our grateful praises. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Open our eyes and ears to the signs and sounds of new life breaking out around us. Show us the reconciliations, the serving, the loving, the justice-making that is happening just outside our doors. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Jesus is no longer to be found where we thought he was. Push us out of the safety of our church building. Send us out to Galilee, Jerusalem, First South, Lunenburg, and all six of the Lahaves, trusting that we will see you there. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Help us do the hard work of admitting and recognizing the limits we have tried to impose on you. Free us from ourselves and our fear, that we may celebrate the vastness of your love. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Send us as light-bearers into the darkened corners of our world. Send us singing a song of love and hope in the face of hatred and despair. Send us out to make a difference in the lives of the poor, the addicted, the oppressed, the stranger and the forgotten, knowing that, for you, none are forgotten. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! You have filled us with your life. Use us to bring your healing, life-restoring touch to those who are ill, shut-in, lonely and grieving, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! You have changed the rules, changed our perspective, changed the world, changed everything. May we live into your new reality with everything we are. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

We pray all this in the name of our risen Saviour, Jesus the Christ.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for Pentecost 11 / Ordinary 18

Trusting the promise that God will hear our prayers, we offer our concern for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, “Hear us, O God,” and responding, “Your mercy is great.”

[Brief pause]

God who is Creator, send us into life to be caretakers of all you have made, that all may share the goodness of this world.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

God who is Love, send us into life to be your loving people in this world of hatred and fear.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

God who is Presence, send us into life to be with those who have been forgotten.  Open our eyes to their reality; open our ears to their cries.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

God who is Justice, send us into life to demonstrate a new way of living.  Fill us with anger at injustice; fill us with desire to make a difference.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

God who is Change, send us into life with new priorities.  Free us from selfish safety; free us for risky service.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

God who is Compassion, send us to the sick, the lonely, the cut off, the hungry, and those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Use us to bring your healing wherever it is needed.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

God who is God, send us into life, assured that you are the Centre.  Hear us, O God,
Your mercy is great.

We offer these spoken prayers, as well as those offered in the silence of our hearts, to you, O God, in the name of Jesus, the Christ.
Amen.
