Prayers of the People for June 25, 2017, Pentecost 3

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, we offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

God of conflict, God of peace, to follow Jesus is to acknowledge that disputes will come, and at the same time trusting your presence with us in the middle of them.  Give us the faith not to be afraid of the challenge.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of conflict, God of peace, you have walked with your people through all their days, all their decisions, all their struggles.  Increase our trust that you never leave us alone.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of conflict, God of peace, some of our difficulties are a result of faithfulness to your leading, and some of our difficulties are self-inflicted.  Keep us humble, that we might discern the difference, and respond appropriately.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of conflict, God of peace, we are painfully aware of the divisions between nations, between peoples, between communities, between family members, and even within ourselves.  Send us your reconciling Spirit, and then send us as reconcilers to your hurting world.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of conflict, God of peace, this good earth is unhealthy, and we know this in our own lives, in our own bodies.  Bring healing into this sick world, including the lives of [NAMES AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause.
Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of conflict, God of peace, guide us and support us through our ups and downs, that we might faithfully point to your love, whatever comes.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

Trusting the promise of unbounded love, we pray in the name of of Jesus, who taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven,….

Prayers of the People for Pentecost 13, September 7, 2014

Trusting the promise that our prayers will be heard, we offer our concerns for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

God who is present, your promise to be among us makes it possible for us to engage in building community.  Remind us that you are at the heart of everything that happens between us.  Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

God who is present, you do not promise that we will always get along; but you DO promise that you will hang in with us anyway.  Enable us to trust your promise, and show your love to those with whom we disagree.  Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

God who is present, your world is full of conflict: between nations, between peoples, between religious traditions, between family members, between congregations, between believers.  Strengthen us to show your presence, even in the uncomfortable places in life.  Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

God who is present, you do not abandon us in our conflicts.  Move us not to abandon each other.  Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

God who is present, we pray with each other for those who need our prayers: the sick, the shut-in, the hungry, the oppressed, the forgotten, and those who are close to us whom we name before you, (especially names).
[Long pause]
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

God who is present, open our eyes to see the opportunities we have to be peacemakers.  Open our hearts to be willing to share your love.  Open our hands to welcome those who are different.  Remind us that you are here, even among us.  Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.

With thanks for all your life-giving gifts, we pray these prayers, as well as those hidden in the depths of our hearts, to you, loving God, in the name of the risen Jesus.
Amen.
