Prayers of the People for May 14, 2017, Easter 5

Celebrating the gift of new life in Christ, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all who need a reminder of God’s love.

[Short pause]

Loving God, your desire for us is freedom from fear, and joy in life.  Remind us of your presence, and help us let go of whatever keeps us from faithfulness.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Loving God, your Easter promise infuses all of life with meaning and hope.  Open our eyes to see the possibilities of healed relationships and restored communities.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Loving God, you call us, as your people, as your church, to live an infectious life of love and service.  May we respond to the needs round us, and may our response point others to your presence with them.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Loving God, we offer our thanks for those who have comforted us in times of fear: family, friends, believers, strangers.  Use us to do the same, especially for [NAMES, AND] those we name before you,
[Long pause]
so that we all may be released from the fear that binds us.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Loving God, we are confronted with changing situations, changing perspectives, changing ministries.  Remind us of your constant love, your perpetual care, your faithful presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the Fifth Sunday of Easter, 2015

Celebrating the mystery of new life in Christ, we pray for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people in any need.

[Short pause]

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Strengthen our faith, so that we might embrace becoming your disciples, no matter how long we’ve been at it. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Open our minds, so that we might be your life-long students, no matter how hard the lessons. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Free us from our fear, so that we might keep growing, no matter what we might be called to do. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Release us from our past, so that we might grow past being members of an organization, and continue growing into becoming your followers. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! Unlock our hearts, so that we might share your love with the ill, the shut in, the depressed, the unemployed, the under employed, the stranger, the outsider, and those people who especially need our prayers, including [NAMES, AND] all those we name before you now. [Long pause] God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

God who brings new life, Hallelujah! You call us to continue becoming your disciples. Enable us to embrace the life you bring, whatever that might be, wherever that might lead. God of resurrection,
Hear our prayer.

We pray all this in the name of our risen Saviour, Jesus the Christ.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for the Fifth Sunday of Easter, 2014

Celebrating the gift of new life in Christ, we offer our prayers for the world, the Church, and all in any need, saying, “To you, living Christ,” and responding, “We offer our prayer.”

[Short pause]

God of life, God of new life, you come to us in the middle of our reality, our broken reality, our longing reality.  Speak your new life into our lives, that we may become signs of your presence.  To you, living Christ,
We offer our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, we come to you with questions and complaints, yet we do not always want to hear your responses.  Open our ears and our hearts, that we may welcome what you give us.  To you, living Christ,
We offer our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, open our eyes to see who you are for us, so that we may be free to reach out with your love and concern for the world around us.  To you, living Christ,
We offer our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, inspire compassion for the sick and hurting, that we may be vehicles of your care.  We offer our special prayers for those who need them. [Long pause] To you, living Christ,
We offer our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, we are confronted with changing situations, changing perspectives, changing ministries. Remind us of your constant love, your perpetual care, your faithful presence. To you, living Christ,
We offer our prayer.

With thanks for all your gifts, we pray these prayers, as well as those hidden in the depths of our hearts, to you, loving God, in the name of the risen Jesus.
Amen.
