Prayers of the People for the Transfiguration of Our Lord 2014

Trusting the promise of God who enlightens all of life, we offer our prayers saying, “Light of the world,” and responding, “Shine on us and through us.”

[Short pause]

God of light, you shine in all of life.  Open our eyes to see.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in the darkest places.  Lead us to share your love and light in all the valleys we encounter.  Help us to embrace the people of Syria, Ukraine, the Central African Republic, and the poor of our own community.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in our confusion.  As you inspire our vision, keep us from self-condemnation; free us to respond with eagerness to the ministry opportunities which surround us.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in this congregation.  Open our lives to reflect your brilliant love, and show us the next step in our journey as your people.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in our need.  Use us to touch those who need healing, support, food, work, meaning and hope, especially those we name before you.
[Long pause]
Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

God of light, you shine in all of life.  Open our eyes to see.  Light of the world,
Shine on us and through us.

We pray in the name of Jesus, our light, our life, and our hope.
Amen.

Prayers for the Sunday of the Epiphany

Celebrating the coming of the One who brings the reign of God to all people, let us pray for the world God loves, the Church God calls, and all people according to their needs, saying, We pray, and responding, Hear us, God of light.

[Brief pause]

Loving God, the sun and moon, stars and galaxies shine with your love for all you have made.  That our life together may be a celebration of your good creation, We pray,
Hear us, God of light.

Loving God, your light shines on all people: Jew and Gentile, Lutheran and atheist, native and immigrant, Canadian and Indonesian.  That we may become more aware of your light in this world, We pray,
Hear us, God of light.

Loving God, your love and care shines into our darkness, creating danger, calling for decision, bringing life.  That we may be open to the risk of discipleship, and the threat of faith, We pray,
Hear us, God of light.

Loving God, you bring healing where there is illness, hope where there is despair, life where there is death.  That we would be your willing hands and feet, carrying the gifts of your love to those in need, especially those whose difficulties we are carrying now, whom we name before you.
[Long pause]
We pray,
Hear us, God of light.

Loving God, your light shines on us so that it may shine through us.  That our lives, both as individuals and as a congregation, may touch this community with your anxious peace and a burning desire for justice, We pray,
Hear us, God of light.

God who shines in the darkness, receive these prayers and the prayers of our hearts, in the name of the one who brings your light, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
