Prayers of the People for Pentecost 8, Ordinary 16

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, let us offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

God of nomads, you are found on the road, on the way, on the journey. Forgive us for attempting to confine you to our buildings.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of relationships, you are found among strangers, between enemies, in the world. Forgive us for attempting to restrict you to ourselves. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of Israel, you are found in ancient stories, in promises made, in covenants kept. Widen our vision to see you beyond our present. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of the Church, you claim us again as your people, you forgive our brokenness, you re-energize us for service. Forgive us for relegating you to the past. Help us respond to what you are doing today. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of the poor and sick, you are most profoundly present in situations of need, of lack, of pain and distress. Inspire us to share your compassion with those who are ill, who have lost hope, who see no future, or who fear the future they do see, including [NAMES, AND] all those whom we name before you.
[LONG PAUSE]
Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of mission, you come for us, but not only for us. You accompany us, but not just to comfort us. You walk with us, but not only for our sake. Send us out empowered, inspired and eager to serve all with whom we come in contact. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

Trusting in the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, let us offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

God of love, you have created us all in your image; you have created us all wonderfully different. Help us embrace the uniqueness of each one, that we may discover our unity in you. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of justice, you call us beyond self-interest; you call us to care for all. Strengthen us to stand with those outside of power and wealth, and point to your presence among the weak. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of reconciliation, you invite us to work for restored relationships. Open our eyes to the divisions we create, and give us the courage to dismantle them. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of Good News, your acceptance reaches far beyond what we imagine, and drives us to welcome those who have been enemies. Give us faith to let go of our hurt; help us hold on to your promise. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of healing, you do not abandon us in our brokenness; we can trust your presence at all times and in all places. Restore those whose health has failed, including [NAMES, AND] all those whom we name before you.
[Long pause]
May the healing we receive strengthen our ability to serve. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God of the Church, we entrust the decisions of our national convention, as well as the life of this congregation, to your care. Focus our energy on what you are doing in this world; may we be partners in making a difference. Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

Trusting in the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
