Prayers of the People for June 18, 2017, Pentecost 2

Filled with promise, and empowered by love, we offer our prayers to God.

[Short pause]

God our refuge, we are not perfect.  We do not have our acts together.  We fail and we fall.  Enable us to remember your compassion.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God our refuge, with you we are welcome.  With you, all are welcome.  Free us from our fear.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God our refuge, you do not demand that we get it right.  You simply invite us to trust your love.  Help us respond; help us reach out.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God our refuge, you extend your invitation to an authentic human life through us.  May our lives shine with your presence.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God our refuge, you call your church to share the compassion you have given us.  Help us trust your presence so much that we no longer fear to care for those around us.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God our refuge, you come when we can no longer move; you support when we are unable to try; you are present when everything denies your presence.  Help us as we touch those who need healing, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[LONG PAUSE]
Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

God our refuge, your love provides all the safety we need.  Strengthen us to take the risk of trusting your love in all we do.  Remind us, loving God,
It’s all about the world.

Trusting the promise of unbounded love, we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for Holy Trinity Sunday, June 11, 2017

Trusting the promise of God’s presence, now and forever, we offer our prayers for the world, the church, and all in need.

[Short pause]

Holy Three, Holy One, you create us, you restore us, you support and strengthen us.  That we would grow in trust of your promise, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

Holy Three, Holy One, your promise goes with us into every encounter, every disappointment, every hurt, every failure.  That we would remember your promise wherever we go, wherever we are, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

Holy Three, Holy One, every day we are confronted with what can’t be, what can’t be done, what can’t be attempted, what can’t be tried.  That we would learn to listen less to the fear around and within us, and more to your presence and call, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

Holy Three, Holy One, you call your Church to risk, to take chances, to go out on a  limb for the sake of those who have been forgotten.  That we would be willing partners in your work of reclaiming creation, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

ZION ONLY
Holy Three, Holy One, you have claimed Jacqui and Brandon as your beloved children.  That you would use them to challenge us to trust more extravagantly, that you would use us to support them to live more faithfully, and that you would use all of us to proclaim your love more enthusiastically, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

Holy Three, Holy One, your presence does not come in spite of our difficulties and challenges; your presence comes because of our difficulties and challenges.  As you remind us of your promise, use us to remind others who need a touch of your grace, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you now.
[Long pause]
That we would be faithful messengers of your promise, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

Holy Three, Holy One, your promise does not fail.  That you would help us hold on to your assurance, we offer our prayer,
Come Holy Spirit.

Trusting the promise of God, whose word cannot fail, we pray in the name of Jesus,
Amen.

Prayers of the People for May 21, 12017, Easter 6

Celebrating the gift of new life in Christ, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all who need a reminder of God’s love.

[Short pause]

Holy One, you are found in all of life, with all people, in all circumstances and situations.  Open us to your presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Holy One, sometimes we are distressed by what we see, by what we experience.  Free us from being judgmental about others.  Open us to your presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Holy One, keep us available to the people around us who have questions, who are in pain, who are self-absorbed, who don’t have time.  Show us your love for them.  Open us to your presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Holy One, remind us that the validity of our faith is not determined by the response of others to us.  Remind us that they have their own paths, and that you reject no one.  Free us to share this journey with all whom we encounter.  Open us to your presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Holy One, you share our journey with us, and with all who are in any need.  Use us to be your healing hands for those who are sick, your comforting hands for those who are hurting, your supportive hands for those who are challenged.  We especially pray for [NAMES, AND] all whom we name before you.
[Long pause]
Open us to your presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Holy One, you are found in all of life, even ours.  Open us to your presence.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

Trusting the promise of unbounded love, we pray in the name of Jesus.
Amen.

Celebrating the gift of new life in Christ, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all who need a reminder of God’s love.

[Short pause]

Loving God, your desire for us is freedom from fear, and joy in life.  Remind us of your presence, and help us let go of whatever keeps us from faithfulness.  God of new life,
Hear our prayer.

[Long pause]

Hear our prayer.

Prayers of the People for Advent 3, 2016

We are invited to bring our world and our lives to God in prayer, believing that we will not only be heard, but strengthened for ministry.  Trusting this promise, let us pray.

[Short pause]

God of the disappointed, so much of life doesn’t turn out the way we think it should.  Give us patience in difficult times.  Liberating God,
Hear our prayer.

God of the disappointed, relationships turn sour, expectations are not met, situations move in uncomfortable directions.  Remind us that you walk with us.  Liberating God,
Hear our prayer.

God of the disappointed, it is difficult to admit, but we disappoint ourselves.  We don’t behave as we wish; we don’t treat others as we want to be treated.  Make us more loving.  Liberating God,
Hear our prayer.

God of the disappointed, today we admit that we have been disappointed in you as well.  You have not live up to our expectations.  Forgive our presumption.  Liberating God,
Hear our prayer.

God of the disappointed, guide your church into ways of looking that can see what you are doing, into ways of listening that can hear what you are saying, into ways of responding which can join what you are making happen in our day.  Liberating God,
Hear our prayer.

God of the disappointed, you send us to the lonely, the poor, the sick, and all those whose desires for life have been unfulfilled.  May we bring healing and hope to [NAMES, AND] all those whom we name before you.
[Long pause]
Liberating God,
Hear our prayer.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the unspoken longings of our hearts, to you, liberating God, in the name of Jesus, our liberating Saviour.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for August 6, 2016 (Pentecost 13)

Embracing the ministries to which we are called, we offer our prayers for the world God loves, the church God calls, and all people according to their needs.

[Short pause]

Generous God, we do not need to be afraid.  Enable us to trust your promise.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Generous God, you share with us everything you have created, and ask us to do the same.  Enable us to trust your provision.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Generous God, the way we treat others, the way we value things, proclaims where our faith truly lies.  Enable us to trust you with everything.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Generous God, you come to us, in love, every minute of every day.  Enable us to see you, to welcome you, to share you.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Generous God, you are working to free your church from everything that keeps us from being your authentic people.  Enable us to let go of whatever is holding us back.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Generous God, we are already in touch with hurting people: the lonely, the excluded, the hopeless, the sick.  Enable us to touch those who need a concrete reminder of your love, especially [NAMES, AND] those we name before you.
[Long pause]
God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

Generous God, we do not need to be afraid.  Enable us to trust your promise.  God of our baptism,
May we respond to your call.

We offer all these prayers, as well as the unspoken longings of our hearts, to you, generous God, in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.

Prayers of the People for Easter 4, 2016

We celebrate new life in Christ by bringing before God all those people and situations that need raising up, and asking that we be part of the healing process.

[Pause]

God of life, God of new life, you call us to question, to wonder, to explore.  Help us let go of finding the answers too quickly.  Help us embrace the not-yet-knowing.  We pray to the living God,
Lord, hear our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, you come to us in mystery, in questions without answers, in problems without solutions.  Enable us to let go of trying to arrive at the end.  Enable us to enjoy the journey.  We pray to the living God,
Lord, hear our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, we are confronted with needs and desires, with difficult tasks and impossible expectations.  Assist us to trust that it’s not about us; but that it’s about you.  We pray to the living God,
Lord, hear our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, you have called this congregation to new ventures and  a re-focussed ministry.  Guide us along our way.  May we leave the results in your hands.  We pray to the living God,
Lord, hear our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, we bring before you the people and situations which have no solutions, no way out, no way through.  We pray for the victims of war, hunger, poverty and power games.  We lift up the sick, the shut-in, the excluded and the grieving, especially [NAMES, AND] all those we name before you.
[Long pause]
We pray to the living God,
Lord, hear our prayer.

God of life, God of new life, you are the God of the impossible.  You have called us to join you.  Inspire us to respond.  We pray to the living God,
Lord, hear our prayer.

Trusting your life-giving promise, we offer these prayers in the name of Jesus, our living Saviour.
Amen.
